I have just been dying to share Typhoon’s “death affirming” new album, White Lighter. Typhoon isn’t your ordinary four-piece pop/rock band. Rather, they are a massive ensemble of more than a dozen band members, all under the leadership of Kyle Morton. This orchestral pop group hails from Portland, Oregon.
A ton of songs are so predictable, and I like to describe those songs as “linear.” You basically know the plot line: a hook to draw you in, the chorus repeated a few times, a slower portion near the end, and the chorus again to wrap it up. Pretty much all the same song structure. Typhoon is different. One moment you hear loud soaring verses, and a split second later, you hear mellow soft serenades. Need proof?
